WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AWD AND FWD?

The key difference between FWD and AWD vehicles is which pair of wheels receives the engine's power. Front-wheel drive is a form of 2-wheel-drive -- so the drivetrain directs the power to the front axles. Likewise, RWD vehicles have the engine's power sent to the back axles. All-wheel-drive models, in contrast, send power to the front and back axles simultaneously. While 2WD vehicles are typically marginally more fuel efficient, AWD vehicles provide greater traction and control.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AWD VS. 4WD?

Both AWD and 4WD (also known as 4x4) systems send power to all four wheels of the vehicle so that you can take advantage of maximum traction. While AWD is typically always on, you can toggle between having 4WD on and off. All-wheel-drive systems are good for pavement driving and light off-roading, while 4x4 systems are meant to be used at lower speeds and are ideal for hauling heavy equipment or taking on particularly challenging terrain.
